Just outside of Durango is Wildcat Point, on the upper edge of Wildcat Canyon. Also known as Lookout Point, it has been used to keep watch on the canyon. In the mid-1900s, Wildcat Point was known to attract young lovers. In Native American culture, the wildcat symbolizes wisdom and balance in leadership.
