Mother’s Day 2023 – Mothers of Team Durango®
 •    8 MIN

The mothers and mother figures in our lives are worth celebrating, so every year we celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. On Mother’s Day we recognize the time, effort, and sacrifices that they have made to raise us and help mold us into the people we are today. Every mother deals with their own set of challenges and circumstances, but the challenges of balancing life on the road as a professional rodeo athlete with being a mother are limited to a very select group of women. Learn more about these incredible women and how they balance rodeo life and motherhood.

Lisa Lockhart
Professional Barrel Racer
Mother to Alyssa (age 25), Thane (age 23), Cade (age 20)

What does being a mom mean to you or what has it taught you?

"Being a mom means the world to me and has taught me a lot about selflessness and putting others first. It gave me a whole new concept of true love. Having a family is the greatest thing ever and children are definitely a true gift from God."

Is it hard being on the road a lot as a mom? Does your family travel with you a lot?

"Being on the road a lot has been very difficult and my children have not gotten to go with me other than when they were very small so that makes it a hard decision on where to go and when to go as I don’t want to miss too many of my kids’ activities."

What lessons or wisdom do you want to pass down to your children?

"My biggest words of wisdom I tell my kids are to work hard, believe in yourself and do whatever you want to do; live out your dreams and have no regrets. Life will take you in funny directions but always make the best of it."

What is your favorite way to spend time with your kid(s)?

"My favorite way to spend time with my kids is to follow their endeavors, whether that be high school sports, rodeo or spend time at the lake with my entire family."

Kelsie Domer
Professional Breakaway Roper
Mother to Oaklynn (age 9 months)

What does being a mom mean to you or what has it taught you?

"Being a mom is the best thing in my life. As a mom, I’ve learned that what I thought was important to me in the past, doesn’t stand a chance compared to having my baby girl in my life now. I’m thankful every day that I get to be Oaklynn’s momma."

Is it hard being on the road a lot as a mom? Does your family travel with you a lot?

"Oaklynn gets to go with me everywhere, and my family has taken turns and helped me go down the road so I can continue to rodeo with her by my side. Traveling has definitely changed since having her, but it’s just another thing we have figured out how to do and I wouldn’t have it any other way now."

What lessons or wisdom do you want to pass down to your children?

"I pray Oaklynn is always confident enough to write her own chapters in her book of life and doesn’t feel she has to look back on someone else’s. I hope I am able to guide her and help her with the things she needs to be successful in whatever she chooses to accomplish."

What is your favorite way to spend time with your kid(s)?

"Anytime with Oaklynn is my favorite. It’s so fun watching her grow and learn and every milestone she reaches is a blessing to see."

Jordon Briggs
Professional Barrel Racer
Mother to Bexley (age 4)

What does being a mom mean to you or what has it taught you?

"Being a mom is the most important job you’ll ever do, and it has taught me that my life is so much more important than a great barrel run or my success in the arena."

Is it hard being on the road a lot as a mom? Does your family travel with you a lot?

"I would say it’s 50/50. When I’m in Texas or close to home, my family stays home but when I leave for the summer, they go with me. We try to make it a family vacation and do fun things on the road while we can."

What lessons or wisdom do you want to pass down to your children?

"If it’s important to you, find a way to do it! No excuses."

What is your favorite way to spend time with your kid(s)?

"I love riding with Bexley, but I also love to take days off and go to the zoo or park and find fun things to do with her. Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is the best way to see it!"
